Bio
David M. Barreda is a visual editor, multimedia producer, curator, and journalist. He is the photo editor for Earthjustice, a core team member at Diversify Photo, and a member of the Advisory Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the American Society of Media Photographers. David served as a founding editor at Topic, a multiple award-winning, digital-native magazine dedicated to long-form storytelling, from the folks at First Look Media from 2017 to 2019. Previously, he was the founding Visuals Editor for ChinaFile where he launched the Abigail Cohen Fellowship in Documentary Photography in collaboration with the Magnum Foundation. He has more than 15 years of journalism experience, spanning digital media to traditional the wet lab darkroom experience. He previously worked as a staff photojournalist at the San Jose Mercury News, the Rocky Mountain News, the Valley News, and the Herald of Randolph. Born in southern Peru and raised in Vermont, David studied at Middlebury College and the University of Missouri. He lives in Oakland, CA, with his partner, Esther, and their daughter.
